The 2015 Golf R will make its U.S. debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The fastest variant of the popular hatchback, it will have 290 horsepower, 34 more than the previous R model. It will go on sale in the first quarter of 2015.
The Golf R will come standard with a 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system, which should help keep all that power glued to the pavement.
The dual-clutch automatic version of the Golf R will reach 62 mph in 4.9 seconds – compared to 5.3 seconds for the R with a manual transmission.
The Golf R comes standard will come with a turbocharged, direct-injected 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The engine makes 290 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.
The sport suspension on the Golf R makes lowers ride height by nearly an inch compared to the base Golf.
